Where do I vote on election day?

Where do I vote? Find your registration information on the State Board's voter search tool. Your jurisdictions and election day polling location will be listed on your record.

Law requires that on election day, you vote only at your designated polling location for the precinct in which you live. This polling location is listed on your voter registration card. When you registered, you received (by mail) your voter registration card--which is not needed to vote.

Updating your address or other registration information

You may update your information (name, physical address*, mailing address, phone number) when you present to vote.
*Note: physical address may be changed only if moving within the county more than 30 days before the election. If the updated address places you in a different precinct, you will be required to go to that precinct in order to cast your ballot in the tabulator. If you do not go to the correct precinct, you will be required to vote a provisional ballot.

NC Law does not allow you to change your party affiliation at the polls. This must be done by submitting an updated Voter Registration Form to the BOE office before the Close of Books (25 days before the election).

Municipal Elections

Municipal elections are held in November of odd numbered years. Because there is a small percentage of municipal voters in the following precincts, the polling location will be closed during municipal elections. However, those municipal voters may vote at the alternate site listed below. A letter is sent to each eligible voter before the election if their home precinct is closed.

Note: this temporary reassignment is only for MUNICIPAL elections.

Hickory Primary

A Hickory Primary will be needed if more than 3 candidates file for one seat. Depending on which City Ward(s) is in the primary, some voters may be required to vote at alternate sites. If this occurs, a letter will be sent to each voter notifying them of their alternate location for the primary election.
