Register of Deeds

Dear Citizen,

The Register of Deeds serves as custodian and manager of a large number of Public Records that exist primarily to enable the owner of an interest in property to give public notice of that ownership. These include the indexing and recording of legal documents such as Deeds, Deeds of Trust, Satisfactions of Deeds of Trust, Powers of Attorney, Maps/Plats, Easements, Rights-Of-Way, Assumed Names, Separation Agreements, Fixture Filings, etc.

We also index and house the birth and death records that have occurred in Catawba County, issue marriage licenses, certified copies of such marriage licenses, certified copies of birth and death certificates, and administer oaths to notaries. We are pleased to record and issue certified copies of military discharges (DD214's) free of charge to our retired military.

The Register of Deeds assists the public in providing prompt and professional service to all who use this office. We strive to serve you with professionalism and compassion, realizing this may be your first experience in dealing with this office. Whether you are searching your “roots,” looking up information on property, acquiring marriage licenses, or getting a certified copy of a vital record, we are here to serve you promptly and courteously, whether your request is made in person, online, or by mail.
