CANDIDATE FILING PERIOD - noon, Monday, Dec 6, 2021 to noon, Friday, Dec 17, 2021


PARTISAN OFFICES

Partisan races will be on the respective party's primary ballot if more than 1 candidate per seat for the same party files for office in December 2021

  • Races: Federal, State, Judicial, and County races
  • Parties: Democratic, Republican, Libertarian
    • US Senate
    • US 12th Congressional District
    • Superior Court Judge District 25B
    • District Court Judge District 25 (7 Seats)
    • District Attorney District 36
    • NC Senate District 45
    • NC House District 89 or NC House District 96 (county is split between the two districts)
    • Sheriff
    • Board of Commissioners (3 Seats)
    • Clerk of Superior Court
  • The partisan races above may be in the March Primary if more than one candidate per seat of the same party files for office. Otherwise, their name will automatically advance to the November ballot.

  • Unaffiliated Voters may choose which party's ballot they wish to vote

MUNICIPAL OFFICES

Non-Partisan Municipal races for residents of Long View and Hickory

  • Town of Long View | Mayor, Alderman Wards 2, 5 - ward races are only for residents of those wards
  • City of Hickory | Mayor, Alderman Wards 4, 5, 6
    Note: if a Hickory Primary is needed, it will be held March 8th and the Hickory Municipal election will be held during the 2022 Second Primary

Books Close - Last day to change your party affiliation and to register to vote on election day or absentee-by-mail

  • Check Your Registration Verify your information is up to date. If not, submit a new registration form before the deadline.
  • Mailed registration forms must be clearly postmarked by this date. Late registrations will be processed after the 2nd Primary (May or June)
  • NO party changes are allowed after this deadline. In a primary election, you may only vote the ballot for the party in which you are registered.
  • If you are registered as Unaffiliated, you may choose one party's ballot to vote. If there is a 2nd Primary, you may only vote the same party's
    ballot you chose in the first Primary.

Thursday, Feb 17, 2022

  • One-Stop Early Voting Begins
  • Catawba County voters may vote at any of the 5 One-Stop locations. Unregistered residents that missed the election-day deadline may register and vote early with proof of residency.

MARCH 2022


Tuesday, Mar 1

  • Last day to request and Absentee-by-Mail ballot (no ballots will be mailed out after this date)

Saturday, Mar 5

  • One-Stop Early Voting Ends

Tuesday, Mar 8 - Primary Election

  • Polls open 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM. On election day, you are required to vote at YOUR assigned precinct's polling location.

Friday, Mar 18 - Canvass

  • All votes reported on election night are UNOFFICIAL until the Board reviews any provisional votes and supplemental absentee votes at Canvass.
  • The date of the Second Primary (if needed) wll be determined after Canvass

SECOND PRIMARY

If a second primary is required (as determined after the Canvass for the Primary Election), it will be ONE of the following dates:

  • April 26 - if no federal race in a runoff anywhere in NC
    • One-Stop early voting: Apr 7 - Apr 23
    • Canvass: May 6
  • May 17 - if federal race is in a runoff anywhere in NC
    • One-Stop early voting: Apr 28 - May 14
    • Canvass: May 27

JUNE 2022


Filing for Non-Partisan Races on the November Ballot

  • Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors (2 Seats)
    SOIL AND WATER FILING PERIOD - noon, Monday, Jun 13, 2022 to noon, Friday, Jul 1, 2022
  • Catawba County School Board (4 Seats) [only for residents in the County School District]
    SCHOOL FILING PERIOD - noon, Monday, Jun 6, 2022 to noon, Friday, Jul 1, 2022

OCTOBER 2022


Friday, Oct 14, 5pm
