Existing Components
![]() | The Blackburn Resource Recovery Facility constitutes the largest component of the EcoComplex and last year (2018-2019) accepted on average 700 tons of solid waste (MSW and C&D) per day. State solid waste bans and opportunities to create sustainable solutions has motivated Catawba County to pursue new outlets of waste streams and diversion. Some of these efforts are expanding to create various collection outlets including but not limited to tires, scrap metal, motor oil, and filters, cooking oil and grease, electronic waste and household hazardous wastes. ![]() | The Gas to Energy Facility has three GE-Jenbacher landfill gas (methane) burning engine generator sets that have the capacity to generate approximately 3 Megawatts of electricity per hour; this is enough electricity to power approximately 1,400 average-sized homes. |
![]() | As the largest new pallet manufacturer in the United States with plant locations in 10 states, Pallet One offers a full range of pallet solutions including used pallet pick up, pallet recycling, and pallet supply. The site is used for education on season extension and marketing techniques, as many of these individuals are now marketing their own crops to the local community. |
![]() | The Crop Processing Facility is a 4-ton-per-day mechanical crush plant intended to extract energy crop oils to produce biodiesel or even food-grade oils. This facility has been privatized through a public-private partnership and it is under the management of BlueRidge Biofuels. |
