Digital Vehicle Registration

Motor Vehicle Registration Update - Effective October 1, 2026

North Carolina is Transitioning to Digital Vehicle Registration.

Beginning October 1, 2026, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles will no longer issue physical vehicle registration cards or license plate renewal stickers. All registration information will be maintained electronically in a secure DMV database.

This means:

  • You will not receive a printed registration card in the mail.
  • You will not receive a license plate sticker with your renewal.
  • Your registration will remain valid as long as required fees and vehicle property taxes are paid on time.

What Catawba County Tax Administration Wants You to Know

Catawba County will continue to administer motor vehicle property taxes through the Tag & Tax Together program. This statewide digital registration update does not change how you pay vehicle property taxes or appeal vehicle values.

If you have questions about your vehicle tax bill or value:
Please contact Catawba County Tax Office at (828) 465-8414
