Update to Proposed School Merger Plan; Public Hearing and Vote Remain on Schedule

The Catawba County Board of Commissioners has updated the proposed school district merger plan that will be the subject of a public hearing and Board vote April 20.

The updated plan removed the requirement that current members of the local school systems’ Boards of Education resign their seats on their respective Boards of Education if they agree to serve on the interim Catawba Valley Board of Education.

The public hearing and subsequent Board vote on the updated plan will be held during the Commissioners’ regularly scheduled meeting April 20. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Board of Commissioners Meeting Room at the Catawba County Justice Center, located at 100 Government Drive in Newton.

The updated proposed school district merger plan is available for review online HERE, along with additional background information related to the proposed merger. A hard copy of the plan is available for review in the Catawba County Clerk’s office.
