What is its mission/purpose?
The tax office is dedicated to serving the citizens of Catawba County by providing guidance and education about the North Carolina Property Tax Relief Programs. These programs are designed to assist eligible residents in reducing their property tax obligations, thereby promoting financial stability and well-being within the community.

How do you achieve your mission – what services are offered?
The tax office strives to ensure eligible residents are well-informed about the available tax relief programs. Our staff frequently assist members of the senior community who seek guidance regarding their tax bills, providing them with information about potential relief programs. Additionally, we communicate details about these programs through Personal Property Listing Forms and on the Catawba County Website to enhance public awareness.

Who does this department serve?
The Property Tax Relief Programs are intended for permanent residents of Catawba County who meet specific eligibility criteria.

  • Elderly/Disabled Exclusion and Circuit Breaker Property Tax Deferment: Individuals aged 65 years or older who meet income requirements established and updated annually by the state.
  • Disabled Veteran Exclusion: Honorably Discharged Disabled Veteran, those Discharged Under Honorable Conditions (General Discharge) Disabled Veteran, or the surviving spouse (not remarried) of a qualifying Disabled Veteran.
  • Application period: January 1st through June 1st of each year.

The primary point of contact for detailed information about all three programs is Matthew Reese, Administrative Assistant II, located in our Revaluation Office. If he’s not available, any member of our staff is prepared to answer inquiries or provide guidance to ensure residents receive the assistance they need.
