BOC Meeting Recap: 3/2/26

The March 2, 2026 Board of Commissioners meeting was called to order at 7pm. The agenda for tonight’s meeting can be found at https://bit.ly/3utv5SE.

BOC approved minutes from the Board’s Regular Meeting and Closed Session of February 16, 2026.

Appointments

Commissioner Setzer recommends Ray Abernathy for a second term and Kathy Ervin for a ninth term to the Town of Catawba Planning and Zoning Board, each with term expirations of December 30, 2028. BOC approved.

Commissioner Setzer recommends the appointment of Joe Good to the Maiden Planning Board to fill the unexpired term of Bruce Ikard, with a term expiration of December 31, 2026. BOC approved.

Presentations

1 – Interbasin Transfer Update presented by Western Piedmont Council of Government Executive Director Anthony Starr.

Public Hearings

1 – Public hearing to consider and approve the purchase of approximately 0.44 acres located at 2018 Conover Blvd. E in Conover (LRK 68386), subject to the satisfactory completion of all due diligence, for utility purposes at the Claremont International Rail Park. BOC approved.

Manager’s Report

1 - Budget Transfer – Sheriff Vehicle Replacement: Transfer from Special Contingency to move funding received from an insurance payout to the General Fund to purchase a replacement vehicle for one damaged in an accident.

2 - Budget Transfer - Other Government Costs Contingency Transfer: Contingency transfer for Professional Services for a contingency-based contract for exploration of BOC-directed potential real property acquisition.

Attorney’s Report

Staff requests the Board of Commissioners determine if the Board is interested in purchasing the Catawba County Board of Education’s surplus property located on Little Mountain Road. BOC declined to pursue.
