Request Pet Food Assistance

Pet Food Assistance Program
The Catawba County Animal Services Pet Food Assistance Program helps people and their families who are facing challenges feeding their pets and is limited to Catawba County residents.

One in four pet owners who surrender their pets to a shelter say it is because they cannot afford to care for them. By providing temporary food assistance, CCAS helps the pets stay in a loving home.

Our assistance is limited to the types of food and supplies that have been donated. Because of this, we cannot guarantee we will always be able to fill all requests, especially requests for specific brands of food or specialty diets.

Pet food can be received by a household one (1) time every thirty (30) days. Only applications from residents of Catawba County are accepted.

Apply for Pet Food Assistance
To request assistance, please complete our online application. Assistance is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants are required to provide proof of their identity by submitting a state issued photo ID/driver’s license or a federal, state, local government, or military ID card.

Applicants are also required to provide proof of residence in Catawba County, which in most cases can be demonstrated with the required ID. In cases where the ID address is NOT in Catawba County, (such as a citizen who has moved into the county and has not updated their ID), a recent billing statement from a utility company with the resident’s current Catawba County address is required in addition to the ID.

Proof of financial need must be provided with a statement of qualifying benefit period from one of the following services:

  • WIC
  • Medicaid
  • Food Stamps (SNAP)

The applicant must be listed as the beneficiary. Statement of benefit documents that are assigned to the applicant's dependents are NOT accepted.

All required documentation may be uploaded with your online application.
