Years with the County: 2

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office is proud to feature Ted Scott, a key member of our Digital Forensics team whose expertise and dedication significantly strengthen our investigative capabilities.

Ted began his professional IT career in 1991, building more than three decades of experience in systems, networks, and digital technologies. In 2008, he transitioned into the specialized field of digital forensics, where he has become highly respected for his precision, technical knowledge, and meticulous approach to evidence handling.

In addition to earning a master’s degree in information technology, Ted maintains active professional certifications as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Computer Examiner (CCE)
Ted has been qualified as an expert witness in digital forensics in multiple jurisdictions, providing testimony on evidence preservation, forensic examinations,
and the interpretation of digital artifacts.

Ted joined the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office in 2024, and since that time has become an essential resource to investigators across the agency and other agencies. His work supports the analysis of digital devices, data extractions, and the complex technical components involved in modern criminal investigations.

In 2025 alone, the investigative team collectively analyzed more than 40,000 gigabytes of digital evidence.  40,000 GB of data equals more than 4 billion printed pages--enough paper to reach the edge of space if stacked.
Over the past year, 96% of the hundreds of devices we examined were smartphones—because phones don’t just hold data; they tell the story of what happened, when it happened, and who was involved.

Ted’s dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence directly enhance our mission to serve and protect the citizens of Catawba County.
