Years with the County: 10.5 years

Briefly describe your job. What do you do?
My primary responsibility is to operate and make judgement calls concerning the switchboard for the county; to greet and direct anyone coming into the Government Ctr. I also issue Privilege License, complete all Tax Certifications and assist Collections with any assigned duties.

What is a typical workday like for you?
I greet visitors to the Government Ctr. daily, and route hundreds of calls thru the switchboard. Most of my time is spent helping people find where they need to go or who they need to see. I spend lots of time on email correspondence.

What is your favorite aspect of your job – what do you enjoy doing most?
I enjoy assisting Catawba County residents and visitors to find a solution to any questions or challenges they may have. I feel it is important to reflect a spirit of positivity regardless of the situation, because you never know the life burden someone may be carrying.

What is the County core value you believe most relates to the work you do, and why?
I am a believer in the core value of “Doing What’s Right” because it can make or destroy your character. It can show how much you care & as the saying goes “people don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.”

What do you like best about working for Catawba County?
The opportunity to make a difference in someone’s outlook on their situation is critical in my position because a call or face-to-face can escalate very quickly. I enjoy the Team in Collections because they know how to step up and get the job done when things get hectic and still show compassion.
