PARKS: Scott Roberts, Ranger
Years with the County: 4
Briefly describe your job. What do you do?
I am a park ranger at Bakers Mountain Park. Duties vary on a day to day basis, ranging from maintaining hiking trails to conducting educational programs.
What is a typical workday like for you?
A typical workday can go from a relaxed morning enjoying the sunshine, to a busy afternoon clearing recent storm damage from the trail, occasionally stopping to help guests find their way through the park.
What is your favorite aspect of your job – what do you enjoy doing most?
My favorite aspect of my job is not sitting behind a desk in an office all day; I love to work outdoors.
What is the County core value you believe most relates to the work you do, and why?
I believe in a combination of 1 and 2: “Doing what matters most” and “Doing it well.” The parks have a long, constantly evolving to-do list and we must prioritize tasks per the needs of the park and our community. With that, we must also “Do it well”; everything we do, should be done to the best of our ability.
What do you like best about working for Catawba County?
It’s a great work environment, close to home, and it’s hard to beat the benefits.
Where did you grow up?
Hickory, NC. I grew up in Mountain View and am a proud graduate of Fred T. Foard High School.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Hunting, fishing, camping, and adventure motorcycle riding

Favorite movie is the “John Wick” series, favorite TV show is “Last Man Standing”, I don’t have a favorite book at the moment.

Christian Rock

Go sports?
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Teleportation. I could pack my bags, and at the snap of my fingers, be on vacation in Alaska.
