Briefly describe your job. What do you do?
I oversee claims management for workers’ compensation, auto, general liability, and property. I coordinate and manage safety and OSHA training programs, ensuring compliance while fostering a safe and secure working environment. I manage the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) processes for Emergency Services, Sheriff’s Office, Utilities and Engineering, Facilities, and County Parks. I also initiate and oversee the random drug screening program to ensure a safe and compliant workplace.
What is a typical workday like for you?
Busy! Busy! But I love it. Each day brings its adventures.
What is your favorite aspect of your job – what do you enjoy doing most?
I am fully committed to my role and take great pride in ensuring employees feel valued and supported. For nearly 12 years, I had the privilege of serving the citizens of Catawba County directly. Since starting in Human Resources in 2019, I have aimed to assist the employees of Catawba County with the same dedication and commitment.
What is the County core value you believe most relates to the work you do, and why?
If I had to choose one, it would be Doing What’s Right. I am committed to treating our employees and citizens with the highest level of respect while providing exceptional customer service and professionalism. My role involves many complexities, especially with workers’ compensation. I want to make sure every employee feels supported and valued.
What do you like best about working for Catawba County?
I appreciate my experience working with the County, especially the excellent support system and its benefits, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and professional development opportunities. These benefits not only offer financial security but also reflect the County’s commitment to the well-being of its employees.
Where did you grow up?
Catawba County, born and raised.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Spending time with my family, church, gardening, and coloring. I also love relaxing on the beach.
Favorite movie, TV show, and/or book?
My favorite TV shows are On Patrol: Live and The Big Bang Theory.
Favorite musical artist or genre?
I love listening to a little bit of everything, though I usually skip the screaming stuff. It all depends on my mood! My Spotify playlist can go from Tupac to Reba, then switch it up with Jelly Roll, and sometimes I love Lauren Daigle or Anne Wilson. It’s fun to mix it up!
Favorite sports team(s)?
I used to be a big fan of the Carolina Panthers, but now my heart is fully devoted to cheering on my kids in their sports. Whether it’s soccer, softball, tennis, or track, there’s nothing like the joy of watching them play.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Teleportation. I enjoy traveling, but I get anxious with long drives and am not a fan of flying. It would be amazing to say, “Take me to Charleston, SC, or Destin, FL,” and poof—I’m there! Wouldn’t that be awesome?
