UPDATED COVID BOOSTERS COMING SOON; OLD BOOSTER FORMULATION ON HOLD
HICKORY – Catawba County Public Health and other COVID-19 vaccine providers are placing a hold on Pfizer and Moderna boosters for individuals age 12 and up in anticipation of new, bivalent boosters that better match currently-circulating strains of COVID-19.
The new boosters are expected to cover more recent Omicron strains, as well as the original COVID-19 virus, providing better protection against severe disease.
NCDHHS notified vaccine providers today not to schedule Pfizer or Moderna boosters for individuals age 12 and up in the meantime. We will share information broadly once the new bivalent boosters become available.
Children ages 5-11 may continue to receive the original boosters, and no changes have been made to the primary vaccine series. Catawba County Public Health still has primary doses available for adults and children age 6 months and up.
