Community Virtual Quilt Project
January 1-31
St. Stephens Branch Library

Let’s build a virtual quilt together! This project is inspired by the Hickory Museum of Art:  Improvisational Quilts of Susana Allen Hunter exhibit. You are invited to create your own quilt square that represents who you are. Let your imagination run wild and design a quilt square with whatever materials you like best- just make sure your creation is in the shape of a square. Then snap a picture to send to nmorse@catawbacountylibrary.gov.The best part is you can keep whatever you create – we just need the photo! Quilt squares can be created at home, or at the St. Stephens Branch Library quilt creation table open all month long.

Eat This, Not That with Renee Green

Inspired by the book series and the blog, we’ll be taking a look at restaurant entrees and grocery store options that you might choose, thinking you’re making the healthier choice, except you’re totally not. With so many options available, it’s not easy to stay informed, but this class will open your eyes to getting great flavor without excess fat and calories. 

Popcorn Party!

Maiden Branch Library

The whole family is invited to a drop-in popcorn party to celebrate National Popcorn Day. Drop in between 5 and 7 pm to visit all the popcorn activity stations! Learn cool facts about popcorn, play popcorn toss, make popcorn kernel rain sticks, and make an edible popcorn and seed garland for birds. And you guessed it! Catawba Songwriters

Social Media Q&A

Social Media is a great way to connect with family and friends that live far away but can also be confusing and hard to maneuver. Bring your questions to the Social Media Q&A program to get the answers you are seeking. If you have your own device, such as a laptop or cell phone, please feel free to bring them. History and Mystery: Art Quilts, Yesterday and Today

You are cordially invited to visit the Hickory Museum of Art’s The Improvisational Quilts of Susana Allen Hunter exhibit and then join us in the museum classroom for a presentation by Penland School of Craft’s Textile Studio Coordinator Danielle Lasker. Topics covered include the history of traditional and modern quilt making as well as contemporary approaches to quilt construction. Visit the Gallery any time prior; presentation starts at 1 pm.
