Homemade Manicure with Gel Polish
Monday, August 5 at 5:30 pm
Program presented in Spanish
We'll teach adults and kids older than 12 how to achieve a perfect manicure using gel polish. Reservations required.
PAWS to Read

Kick off your week with this dance/movement activity that’s too much fun to call exercise. Appropriate for every skill and ability level, open to ages 14+ (parental signature required for those under 18).
Tai Chi
Thursdays at 6 pm
Reduce stress and anxiety while increasing flexibility and balance. Suitable for all fitness levels, open to ages 14 and up (parental signature required for teens under 18).
Excel Basics
Tuesday, August 6 at 11 am
Learn the basics of Excel, a spreadsheet program that lets you store, organize, and manipulate data. This class will teach basic functions like AutoSum and AutoFill.
Excel: Formulas and Functions
Wednesday, August 7 at 11 am
Learn to create basic formulas or use already created functions to add numbers, calculate a mortgage payment, or search for variables. Basic Excel skills required.
Southern Pens Book Club

AED and Hands-Only CPR Class
Friday, August 9 at 4 pm
Using simple audio and visual commands, an automated external defibrillator (AED) offers guided directions for bystanders to help people suffering from sudden cardiac distress. The machine automatically diagnoses and treats with electricity, but only if needed. Learn how to use an AED (often available at public places like churches, malls, and county buildings) and how to save a life using hands-only CPR. This class will be taught by Catawba County Emergency Medical Services staff.

Bring your completed reading log as your ticket in! We'll celebrate with ice cream and fun activities as a reward for meeting your reading goals. Turn in your reading log during the drop-in event to be registered for system-wide grand prize drawings.

Join us as we explore the forces and concepts of science and engineering by learning about circuits, solving Morse code messages, building catapults, and more! At each meeting, we'll complete hands-on projects based on the 4-H program guides. Designed for ages 7-16. Registration required.
Coding Club: Video Game Design

Using Google's CS First and MIT's Scratch programs, we'll learn basic video game coding concepts. For our last week, we'll create an out-of-this-world cave surfing game to share with friends and play at home. Recommended for rising 6th graders and up.

Have you wanted to try tai chi but didn’t know if it was right for you? Taught by a certified instructor through Catawba Valley Medical Center, this 3-week class offers a chance to sample and explore tai chi as a way to reduce stress and anxiety while increasing flexibility and balance. Suitable for all fitness levels. Parental signature required for teens 14-18.

Meet the 'Tai Chi for Healthy Living' Instructor

Get a jump on your paperwork, ask questions, and meet Dianna-Lee Osborne, certified tai chi instructor for the Friday classes that begin on August 9 and run through November 22. Bring a friend and learn more about the style of tai chi that Osborne teaches.
Tai Chi for Healthy Living
Fridays at 11 am (beginning August 9)
This series of tai chi classes runs through November 22 and is taught by a certified instructor via live video feed. Combining the Tai Chi for Health and A Matter of Balance principles, the research-based class aims to increase activity levels, enhance fitness, and prevent falls in adults of all ages. Participants will be asked to complete a survey and sign a waiver. Stop by the library Thursday, August 8 to complete the paperwork, or come early to the first class.
