PAWS to Read
Thursday, August 29 at 6 pm
Children are invited to read to one of our trained therapy dogs. Call for an appointment.

Zumba 

Mondays at 6 pm
Kick off your week with this dance/movement activity that’s too much fun to call exercise. Appropriate for every skill and ability level, open to ages 14+ (parental signature required for those under 18).

Tai Chi
Thursdays at 6 pm
Reduce stress and anxiety while increasing flexibility and balance. Suitable for all fitness levels, open to ages 14 and up (parental signature required for teens under 18).

Piece of Cake Book Club
Tuesday, August 27 at 3 pm
Want to read eleven great books per year? PoCBC meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at Whisk & Barrel in downtown Newton. August’s selection is The End of the World Running Club by Adrian Walker. September’s pick is Educated by Tara Westover.

Health First: Free Health Check
Thursday, August 29 at 11 am
Take advantage of helpful nurses visiting from Catawba Valley Health System’s Health First office to get your vitals checked, ask questions, track progress, and keep yourself running like a well-oiled machine.

Join us for a showing of this entertaining film starring Emilio Estevez, Alec Baldwin, and a cast of other great actors. The story: on the coldest night of the year, a Cincinnati librarian is caught between a group of homeless patrons staging a public library sit-in and a face-off with the local police and media. We'll have popcorn and drinks on hand.

Explore Tai Chi

Monday, August 5 at 6:30 pm
Have you wanted to try tai chi but didn’t know if it was right for you? Taught by a certified instructor through Catawba Valley Medical Center, this 3-week class offers a chance to sample and explore tai chi as a way to reduce stress and anxiety while increasing flexibility and balance. Suitable for all fitness levels. Parental signature required for teens 14-18. 

Tai Chi for Healthy Living
Fridays at 11 am
This series of tai chi classes runs through November 22 and is taught by a certified instructor via live video feed. Combining the Tai Chi for Health and A Matter of Balance principles, the research-based class aims to increase activity levels, enhance fitness, and prevent falls in adults of all ages. Monday, August 26 at 6 pm
Local artist Melanie Stewart Cranford will share how she creates pieces for the Art-o-Mat vending machine located at the Main Library in Newton, show a short video demo, and talk about how her Art-o-Mat work supports her other work. Make your own miniature art and find out about are opportunities in the area. All supplies provided. Registration required.
