STEAM Saturdays: HalloSTEAM

Published: October 15, 2021

There’s nothing like a little rocket science to add some excitement to STEAM Saturdays! If you think ghosts are cool (even if they’re a little spooky) and rockets are fun, then you don’t want to miss out on making ghost bottle rockets.

This spookier side of science program will take place on Saturday, October 23 at 3 pm at the St. Stephens Branch Library. Kids will learn about systems of thrust, which is what a real rocket (and maybe even ghosts) uses to move through space and the earth’s atmosphere. Of course, rockets use rocket fuel for blast off but we’ll be using Alka-Seltzer tablets - it is sure to be out of this world fun!

Make sure to register at tinyurl.com/steamsaturdays or call 828-466-6821 as materials are limited. Kids of all ages welcome, but children younger than 7 may need parental assistance.

The most futuristic of humankind's inventions is also one of the oldest. Author Ron Miller tells the story of rockets, from their humble beginnings as toys one thousand years ago to their initiation as fearsome weapons of war. Most recently, rockets have enabled human beings to escape the bonds of Earth, travel into space, and explore other worlds. This is a story of great geniuses, personal sacrifices, and grand adventure.
