Squire by Sara Alfageeh and Nadia Shammas
“Squire, by Sara Alfageeh and Nadia Shammas, was one of those books I read in under 24 hours because I simply could not put it down, and then deeply regretted having finished so quickly rather than having taken the time to savor each page. The story follows a young woman named Aiza, who joins her empire's military training program in the hopes of becoming a hero and bettering her family, only to realize that the legends she's been told of the greatness and heroism of Knights and Squires may not be the entire story. If you like graphic novels, the fantasy genre, swordfights, lovable but complex characters, subversions of typical genre tropes, charming and expressive artwork, plot twists, and bittersweet, open endings, I cannot recommend Squire highly enough!”
