Property Notification Service Available from Register of Deeds
Published: May 30, 2024
Catawba County Register of Deeds Donna Hicks Spencer is reminding residents of the Property Notification service available through the Catawba County Register of Deeds office. Designed to help prevent fraudulent land records activity, the online service will send an email to registered users when a name they have registered appears on a document filed in the Register of Deeds office.
Users may register their own names or the names of vulnerable family members or friends. If documents are filed with their registered names, they will receive an email notification containing the name matched, date of filing, and the book and page reference. A link to the image of the document on the Catawba County Register of Deeds land records search site will be included.
“The Register of Deeds office is required to file all documents that meet statutory requirements for recordation, but our staff does not have the ability to confirm the validity of all filings,” said Spencer. “If there is a fraudulent filing in our office, we hope that this timely notice to registered users will allow that fraud to be addressed quickly.”
The Property Notification service can be accessed through the Register of Deeds home page on the Catawba County website, www.catawbacountync.gov, or directly here. The service is provided free of charge to citizens and real property owners in Catawba County.
