Homework Helpers Return to the Library

Homework Helpers Return to the Library

Published: February 25, 2021

With all the fluctuations in school policies during the pandemic — including varied classroom schedules, virtual vs. in-person attendance, and different requirements by county and by school system — some students have struggled to grasp the materials.

To provide extra support for their efforts, the 4-H Youth Council is partnering with the Catawba County Library to offer 20-minute time slots for homework and reading assistance. Elementary and middle school children may drop in on a first-come, first-served basis and get support and reinforcement for their grade-level lessons or reading requirements.

To be connected with a Homework Helper, visit one of the participating library branches and check in at the circulation desk when you arrive. Staff will guide you to someone who’s available. Parents must remain in the library during each session.

The Homework Helper program is open at the following times and locations beginning March 1:

  • Main Library in Newton: Mon & Wed 4-6 pm
  • Sherrills Ford-Terrell Branch: Mon 4-6 pm
  • Conover Branch: Sat 10 am-12 noon
