Center & Venture: Inner Peace and Outer Adventure

Center & Venture: Inner Peace and Outer Adventure

Published: March 25, 2022

Certified trainer and tai chi instructor Dr. George Place leads us in finding inner peace and outer adventure during gatherings scheduled at some of the most beautiful spots in the county, offering 30 minutes of tai chi followed by an hour’s hike.

Two of Catawba County's Parks play host to these Center and Venture gatherings. Catawba County Parks are places where visitors can experience the county’s natural habitats and enjoy the outdoors while hiking, running, biking, picnicking, and viewing wildlife. Each of these parks has a distinctive personality.

Riverbend Park features 690 acres with 1.25-miles of shoreline along the Catawba River, and 19.7 miles of trails. You can experience a variety of wildlife habitats that range from freshwater wetlands to upland forest.

Bakers Mountain Park is located on the highest elevation point in Catawba County (1780 feet). The park features 189 acres of mature Chestnut Oak forest with nearly 6 miles of trails. You can experience a variety of wildlife and plants native to the North Carolina Mountains.

Between tai chi, hiking, and the county’s parks, you’ll find everything you need to improve your sense of wellbeing: stretching, activity, calm, and nature in the company of friends! AND if you’re a photography lover, professional or amateur, Catawba County Parks is hosting an on-going photography contest with different themes each month.
