MAKING. LIVING. BETTER: Register of Deeds - Thank You For Your Service Program for Military Veterans
Briefly describe the area you are spotlighting.
Thank You For Your Service is a photo ID discount program enabling Catawba County veterans to enjoy discounts from local businesses. Participation in our program is free for veterans and businesses. If the DD-214 is filed with Catawba County Register of Deeds, then the Veteran will be able to obtain a “Thank You For Your Service card.”
How do you achieve your mission?
We share the program m when we have a Veteran come into the office by thanking them for their service and explaining the program. We also promote the program in our educational training, for example: Citizens Academy, Mini-course, paralegal course or when we have interns visiting our office.
Who does this department/service area/program serve?
Thank You For Your Service was created to encourage veterans to record their DD214 form (Discharge from Active Duty, Certificate of Release or any military discharge form provided) at their local Register of Deeds office. By recording DD214s, the veteran’s service record is safeguarded forever, can always be found, and is closed to the public. Once recorded, it enables our veterans to quickly obtain a certified copy of the document at the local level when needed. There is no cost to record the DD214 or obtain a certified copy.
How and where are services delivered?
Veterans register their DD-214 at the Register of Deeds office. Then we take them to Emergency Services to have their photo discount card printed.
How many staff members are involved in delivering services?
12 staff members are able to assist with this service.
How does our community and/or organization benefit from these services?
It is a way of giving back to veterans.

Did you know that the newest branch is Space Force? This was founded December 20, 2019. It protects U.S. and allied interest in space and operates global space systems.

Discounts may be a percentage of the sale or a specific dollar amount (both can be with limitations and/or restrictions). Or, you may wish to offer an incentive gift or gift card to the veteran (e.g., a free drink with purchase).
