MAKING. LIVING. BETTER: Social Services: Success coach Service

The Success Coach Service began in 2010 and is a free, voluntary program designed to support families as they face challenges, such as navigating the education system, guidance with attachment, parenting burnout, trauma and healing, financial challenges, substance abuse, mental health, etc. The Success Coach model was developed by Catawba County Social Services and selected by the Department of Health and Human Services as the post-care model to support families in North Carolina with children who have left foster care through reunification, guardianship, custody, or adoption. In addition to serving children exiting foster care, the service is also available to all adoptive families in North Carolina.

A Success Coach will get to know the families and learn how they can best assist. Families drive this process, focusing on areas they feel will help their family. Success Coaches work with families to create goals and work with them in the homes once a month.

Success Coaches believe engagement and genuinely getting to know everyone in the family are priorities when assisting during this journey. Examples of what a Success Coach can do to assist these families include:

  • Connect with community resources.
  • Help parents assess their child’s needs.
  • Provide support, education, and training focused on your family’s needs.
  • Assist in managing crisis.
  • Teach parenting strategies that work.
  • Offer support for special school needs.
  • Resource lending library.
  • Assist in how to talk to your child about adoption or answer their questions.
