Wilderlore: The Accidental Apprentice by Amanda Foody
"This book is like a combination of Pokémon and Harry Potter. It was recommended to me by one of my co-workers and I fell in love with this world of magic and creatures and the quirky characters that live in it. My favorite character is Barclay, a boy who came from a town that hates magic and outsiders and he gets thrown out after discovering he has magic abilities. It is a good story with adventure, friendship, and finding where you belong in the world. Make sure to read the next two books in the series!"
