Assumed Business Name Filing Now Available Online
Published: January 17, 2024
The Catawba County Register of Deeds is now accepting Assumed Business Name filing online at catawba.filemybusinessname.com.
In North Carolina, an Assumed Business Name filing is required by law before any business is conducted under the assumed name within the county.
Currently, only new Assumed Business Name filings are accepted online. Assumed Business Name withdrawals or amendments must be handled in person at the Register of Deeds office (located at 100 Government Drive, Newton, NC 28658), sent by postal mail, or made through an existing eRecording account.
The cost to electronically file an Assumed Business Name is $15.00, and the cost to record an Assumed Business Name Certificate is $26.00. Both steps and related fees are required to complete a filing online. A hold for the total fee ($41.00) is placed on the filer’s credit card when the Assumed Business Name is filed, and the credit card is charged when the filing is complete.
E-mails confirming the status of a filing are sent to the filer as it moves through the process. If the Assumed Business Name filing is rejected, a notification with a reason for the rejection will be sent to the filer by email. The status of an Assumed Business Name filing can also be checked at any time on the filing site.
This service is provided through Get Certificate Now, a secure online filing system managed by Register of Deeds’ vendor Courthouse Computer Systems.
