Thad Scronce

Major Thad Scronce is a lifelong resident of Catawba County growing up in the Startown community.  Thad is agraduate of Fred T. Foard High School.  After High School he attended Haywood Community College and received his Associates degree in Criminal Justice.  After graduating he attended Gaston Community College and received his Basic Law Enforcement Training Certificate.

Thad Began his law enforcement career in 1997 joining the Newton Police Department as a patrol officer and later a worked in the community policing division at Newton P.D.  

In 2000 Thad joined the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office as a night shift deputy.  Since joining the Sheriff’s Office Thad has served the office in numerous capacities including the Patrol Division, Traffic division, Criminal Investigations division and Community Relations.  

In 2008 Thad moved into our Criminal Investigations Division and worked both general Investigations and the special victim’s unit cases.  Thad was later promoted to Sergeant and supervised both these investigative divisions.  

In 2015 Thad was promoted to Lieutenant in the Patrol Division and supervised B-Platoon for several years.  2019 Thad transferred to our Community Relations Division as Lieutenant and supervised the School Resource Officers and Community Relations programs.  Since that time the Community Relations Division has continued to grow and Thad was promoted to Captain and then Major and now oversees our Community Relations and Support Services Division which encompasses our School Resource Officers, Community Relations, Lake Patrol Division along with our Records and Gun Permits Division.

Thad still lives in Catawba County with his family and enjoys working with all the wonderful employees of Sheriff’s Office to serve the citizens of this great county.
