Soil & Water Conservation District: Leia Hamlyn, Education Coordinator

Briefly describe your job. What do you do? 
I coordinate and assist with educational events (Field Days, Education Contests, Resource Conservation Workshop, Education Awards Banquet, Farm Family, and Area/State level Envirothon competitions) in addition to classroom presentations and office/board administrative tasks. 

What is your favorite aspect of your job – what do you enjoy doing most? 
I love being outside and working with students.

What do you like best about working for Catawba County?
I truly appreciate the professionalism and teamwork exemplified by the many departments I have had the opportunity to work with. 

What is the County core value you believe most relates to the work you do, and why? 
Doing What Matters Most: I am honored to have the opportunity to teach students about soil and water conservation. The more they learn and care about our natural resources, the better our future will be. 

Where did you grow up? 
I grew up riding bikes, playing in creeks, and climbing trees in Davie County.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?  
Ballet, Pilates, yoga, hiking, reading

Favorite movie, TV show, and/or book? 
Anything written by Jane Austen is lovely. Favorite TV show is Ted Lasso. 

Favorite musical artist or genre? 
I love an eclectic variety of music from Bad Bunny to Beethoven.

Favorite sports team(s)? 
Everton Football Club (Premier League Soccer)

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Flying because that would just be so much fun!
