2019 NCADE Statewide Conference hosted by District 3 - April 1 & 2
Catawba County Board of Elections would like to thank NCADE District 3 for selecting Hickory as the site for the 2019 NCADE Conference. Though Catawba County is a member of District 2, the City of Hickory crosses into District 3 in Burke County. We want to welcome all North Carolina counties in attendance and hope you venture out and explore the Hickory area while you are here. We would love to see you come back with friends and family.
Hickory Metro Convention Center

The Hickory Metro Center is located in the busiest retail area of Catawba County.
Just behind the Metro you'll find the main thorofare in the county, US 70 Hwy running east-west, paralleling Interstate 40.
Valley Hills Mall is directly across Hwy 70. Behind the Mall along the stretch of Catawba Valley Blvd, you'll find more shopping (Target, Kohls, AC Moore, etc.) and more restaurants. Highlighted below as reference points are Hickory Metro Center, Valley Hills Mall, and Hickory Furniture Mart.
VENTURE OUT and see a little of what Hickory has to offer. Downtown Hickory, Viewmont, and Lenoir-Rhyne University areas are located within 4 miles from the Metro. If you are looking for finer dining choices, check them out.
Lenoir Rhyne University Area
This is the newest development area for upscale restaurants and breweries. Several of the old factories, mills, and warehouses are being renovated into dining, retail and event spaces.

Viewmont Area of Hickory
NC 127 runs north of Hickory to Alexander County. Google Maps
Downtown Hickory
Downtown Hickory is an excellent choice for a nice stroll while window shopping. Union Square includes several excellent restaurants to choose from including a wine shop, coffee shop, a gourmet olive oil & vinegar store, and a vast selection of specialty shops. Google Maps
April 3 - Catawba Valley Community College
The Election Certification Exam will be held Wednesday, April 3rd. If you're scheduled to take it, we wish you the best!!
Catawba Valley Community College is located less than 1.5 miles from the Metro Center on US 70 Highway.
- Directions from the entrance of the Metro Center: drive around to the back of the building and the main road will lead to a traffic light at Hwy 70. Turn Left. Travel ~1 mile and turn right at the traffic light in front of Popeye's and Taco Bell.
- Directions from I-40: take exit 126 onto McDonald Parkway. Travel south and turn LEFT onto Hwy 70 using the "outer" left turn lane--after the turn, you will be taking the next right at the traffic light in front of Popeye's and Taco Bell.
From US 70 turn right into CVCC's campus. Park anywhere to the right; you will be entering the building to your left. There are several handicapped spaces by the bulding.
The exam is in West Wing Room 108.
Catawba County, NC
The county is bounded by the Catawba River to the north and east and by Lake Norman at the southeast corner.
Interstate 40, and US 70 run east-west and highways US321 and NC16 run north-south.
Catawba County is 15 miles east of Interstate 77 via I-40.
Newton, NC is the county seat and the City of Hickory is the largest municipality.
