Seasonal flu clinics for children planned for Saturday, November 21 at Bandys and St. Stephens High Schools.
Public Health will be offering seasonal flu vaccine for children in grades K-12 on November 21st from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. No appointment is necessary. The H1N1 vaccine will be offered if available. Both vaccines will be provided free of charge.

Rick Cook is the winner of the 2009 James S. Cooper Award from the North Carolina Local Government Information System Association. The award is given annually to an individual or agency for service above and beyond his, her or its normal performance of duties, with regard to inter-agency cooperation.

Bethany Church Road Convenience Center to return to operating schedule used prior to March 2009.
Effective October 31, 2009, the Center will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and will again be closed on Sundays.

U.S. Census Bureau names manager for Hickory office.
The U.S. Census Bureau has appointed a slate of managers for a new 2010 Census office in Hickory at 1273 16th Street NE, in the Sandy Ridge Plaza. The Hickory office supports census operations in seven counties: Alexander, Alleghany, Catawba, Iredell, Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin.

Waste Reduction Coordinator/Educator named Catawba County Employee Of The Year.
Amanda Kain was honored for her work to improve waste reduction, reuse, and recycling through waste reduction and recycling education to the industrial and commercial community, which led to Catawba County's being ranked second in the state in recycling.
