Art Exhibit Opening

Art Exhibit Opening

Published: February 20, 2019

Following the success of its Arts @ the Library launch – including the debut of the Art-o-Mat vending machine and exhibits of local artists, folk art, and glass art – the Library is hosting a reception for its newest showcase: an exhibit featuring the works of students at South Newton Elementary School.

Jane Clark – a first-grade teacher at the school, as well as staff adviser for the Community Art Club – is coordinating with the Newton Public Arts Commission and the Catawba County Library to mount the exhibit. Works are largely two-dimensional and feature a variety of media.

The exhibit opening takes place at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, February 26 at the Main Library in Newton. Guests can enjoy live music, refreshments, and a chance to meet the artists. Many of the attendees will be family and friends of the students, but everyone interested is invited to view the works and talk art with community members.

The exhibit is intended to highlight the youngsters’ creativity and skills in a way that the general public can easily access. By encouraging artistic practice and experimentation when students are young, the hope is that a lifelong curiosity will develop to inform any future endeavors.

Arts @ the Library is made possible with a grant from the United Arts Council of Catawba County and partnerships with the Hickory Museum of Art and the Catawba County Friends of the Library.
