Agreements

This document is a legally binding agreement between Catawba County Animal Services (CCAS) and the above-referenced foster parent.
In consideration for CCAS to temporarily transfer animals to the above-referenced foster parent, the above-referenced foster parent agrees to the following stipulations: Please initial each line below.

I agree I am 18 years or older and everyone in my family/household is knowledgeable of the foster animal(s) I am temporarily housing.

I agree that this agreement will serve as a binding contract for all animals I foster until this contract is terminated. Further, future animals entrusted into my care will be notated by a receipt of transfer detailing clear identification of each animal and its background.

I agree the foster animal I am temporarily caring for and housing remains the property of CCAS.

I have read and understand the foster parent emergencies guideline.

I agree and understand that ANY veterinary care or medical expenses provided to the foster animal must be pre-approved by CCAS. Further, if a foster parent takes a foster pet (or buys over the counter medications) to a veterinarian without getting approval from a CCAS representative the foster parent is liable and responsible for ALL costs.

I agree to return my foster animal(s) to CCAS upon request. Failure to do so may result in legal action. Further, I agree not to re-home my foster pet(s) without going through CCAS.

I agree if my foster animal becomes injured (minor or serious) I must alert a CCAS representative immediately.

I agree to inform a CCAS representative immediately if I intend to legally adopt my foster pet. Further, if I legally adopt a foster animal I agree to pay all standard adoption fees.

I agree to remain in compliance with all Catawba County ordinances (chapter 6) and North Carolina state laws regarding animals. Violations of ordinances/laws may result in civil penalties and/or criminal action.

I agree to always provide food (at least once in a 24-hour period), constant access to fresh water, timely veterinary care (through CCAS), and a living environment that is sanitary, spacious, and enriching for the foster pet(s).

I agree to keep all foster dogs on a secure leash unless inside a residence or fenced in backyard. I agree to keep my foster cat indoors at all times. If I am fostering an exotic animal, I agree to keep said animal in an appropriately sized humane enclosure suitable to that animal.

I agree and understand that CCAS has disclosed all medical and behavioral background (attached) to me regarding all my foster animals. Further, I understand that CCAS attempts to learn everything they can about all animals at the shelter; however, CCAS does not know the full history of the animals that come into the shelter and, thus, CCAS makes no express or implied warranties, representations, or promises as to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, or safety of the animals. I hereby accept the Animal AS IS and assume all risks and responsibilities associated with the temporary housing of the foster animals, including bites.

I agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless CCAS and any of its Boards, Officers, Agents, Employees, Assigns, and Successors in Interest from and against all suits and causes of action, claims, losses, demands and expenses, including, but not limited to, attorney’s fees and cost of litigation, damage or liability of any nature whatsoever, for death or injury to any person, including our employees and agents, or damage or destruction of any property of either party hereto or of third parties.

I agree that I have received a Foster Care Manual that outlines care for the foster pet in my custody as set forth by the Animal Welfare Act.

I agree that, in the event I am fostering more than 9 animals, I will disclose that information to CCAS. AWA requires that any individual temporarily fostering/housing more than 9 animals must be inspected/licensed through the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. If you are fostering/housing more than 9 unowned animals CCAS will help me with that process by putting me in contact with the state inspector for my region.

I agree to allow a representative from CCAS to inspect my property before and/or during the time I am fostering.
