MUNICIPAL CANDIDATE FILING


July 2025


Monday, July 7, 8:00am

  • Candidate filing begins for 2025 Municipal Seats
    • By statute, filing begins first Friday of July; however, the office is closed for the Fourth of July holiday.
  • Candidate Requirements
  • More information on becoming a candidate
  • Filing Fee (Cash or Check. Cards not accepted):
    • City of Hickory: $12.00
    • All others: $5.00

Tuesday, July 15, 5:00pm

  • Deadline to withdraw candidacy

Friday, July 18, noon

  • Candidate Filing Ends

OCTOBER HICKORY PRIMARY (If Required)

  • Required only if more than two candidates file for any one Hickoy seat
  • If a Hickory Alderman seat is on the primary ballot, only residents of that ward may vote for that seat

September 2025


Thursday, Sep 18, 8am

  • Early Voting Begins for City of Hickory Primary

October 2025


Tuesday, Oct 7, 6:30am-7:30pm

  • City of Hickory Primary - voters must vote at their assigned precinct's polling location
  • Some precinct polling sites are temporarly moved for the Municipal elections. If so, voters of those precincts were mailed a letter with instructions on where to vote election day
  • Hickory Voters: all Hickory voters may vote for Aldermen of all wards in this general election
  • Long View Voters: only residents of the ward may vote for that ward's Alderman

NOVEMBER MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

  • Books Close - deadline to register to vote by mail or vote election day

Thursday, Oct 16

  • Early Voting begins for Municipal Elections

Tuesday, Oct 28, 5:00pm

  • Deadline to request an absentee-by-mail ballot

November 2025


Saturday, Nov 1, 3:00pm

  • Early Voting ends

Tuesday, Nov 4, 6:30am-7:30pm

  • Municipal Election Day - voters must vote at their assigned precinct's polling location
  • Some precinct polling sites are temporarly moved for the Municipal elections. If so, voters of those precincts were mailed a letter with instructions on where to vote election day

Friday, Nov 14, 11:00am

  • Canvass of the Muncipal Elections - votes are not official until Canvass
