Weave a Paper Placemat

Weave a Paper Placemat

Published: November 14, 2018

Simple holiday crafts are a terrific way to involve kids in the preparation and planning behind family festivities. The Library has a fun workshop to let little ones participate and add their own creative flair to the Thanksgiving table.

We’ll use strips of construction paper as a basic weaving lesson, and we’ll allow kids to choose the colors they want in order to generate a one-of-a-kind placemat that they can share with someone special. Once each child is satisfied with his or her end product, we’ll send the goods through the laminator so that the placemats are impervious to spills and can be used again and again.

If you’d like your child to have the opportunity to learn more about warp and weft and all the other relevant terms and concepts, we’d love to share the details and help with the project. With a little effort from the youngsters, your Thanksgiving spread will be even more spectacular than expected!

The workshop meets on Tuesday, November 20 at 4 pm at the Main Library in Newton.
