Ready to Learn Storytime: Preschool
Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays at 10 am
Songs, sensory play, crafts, and stories designed to prepare your preschooler to learn. Ideal for children 3-5, but all are welcome. 

PAWS to Read
Tuesdays from 4-6 pm
Children are invited to read to one of our trained therapy dogs, including Fudge. Call to make an appointment. 

ADULTS / CAREER / TECH
Zumba 
Mondays at 6 pm 

Kick off your week with this dance/movement activity that’s too much fun to call exercise. Appropriate for every skill and ability level, open to ages 14+ (parental signature required for those under 18).

English as a Second Language Classes
Mondays at 6:30 and Thursdays at 5:30 pm
ESL classes are terrific resources for people whose native language is not English. Through instruction and conversation, participants will gain confidence and skills in speaking, reading, and comprehension. For details, call the library at 828.465.8665.

Tai Chi
Thursdays at 4 pm
This graceful martial art has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety while increasing flexibility and balance. Think of it as meditation in motion; tai chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movement. Suitable for all fitness levels, open to ages 14 and up (parental signature required for those under 18).

Adult STEAM: The Science of Distilling
Saturday, March 30 at noon
Join us as we tour the Warehouse Distillery, handcrafters of bourbon and whiskey, and learn about the science of distillation. This program will take place at the distillery (2628 Northwest Blvd, Newton). Please contact Shelley Orr at 828.465.9494 for information or to sign up.

Houseplant Talk & Swap
Saturday, April 6 at 11 am 
Join the library and Anelle Ammons from the Cooperative Extension for a presentation on how to choose and care for houseplants and enjoy the benefits they provide. Bring your pest-free houseplants for trade, potted or bare root. Don’t worry if you don’t have any houseplants to trade – all are welcome!

Hands-on Gardening Series
Saturday, March 30 from 9:15 am-12 noon
Join us for short presentations on early spring pruning and soil science (learn why it’s an important first step when planning a garden or maintaining an existing one). Then, head outside for a hands-on workshop on pruning. We'll also find out about perennials, groundcover care, and taking a soil sample. (Pick up your free kit so you can test your own!) Dress for the outdoors, and bring your questions since two master gardeners will be available. Light refreshments provided.

Mystery Mavens Book Club
Tuesday, April 2 at 6:30 pm 
The Mystery Mavens welcome new members, and the club is open to the public. Join us for a lively discussion of The Alienist by Caleb Carr. May's discussion will focus on The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson.
