English as a Second Language

Excel Basics

Learn the basics of Excel, a spreadsheet program that lets you store, organize, and manipulate data. This class will show you how to insert text and use basic functions like AutoSum and AutoFill to help you get started.

This popular children’s author will lead an interactive demonstration about how he creates stories and art using computers. The program is co-sponsored by the Patrick Beaver Learning Resource Center.

Excel: Formulas and Functions

Formulas and functions make Excel work for you. Learn to create basic formulas or use already created functions to add numbers together, calculate a mortgage payment, or search for variables. Basic Excel skills required.

The CVCC Play Production class presents a reader’s theater-style performance of select passages. Students will bring to life voices from the book, offering an intriguing oral interpretation of a text that was not originally intended for the stage.

We’ll view the TED Talk A Prosecutor’s Vision for a Better Justice System, followed by a lively discussion led by Wake Forest University’s Needham Yancey Gulley Professor of Criminal Law, Professor Ron Wright.

Film Screening: After Innocence

This gripping documentary by Jessica Sanders follows the cases of more than a half-dozen men who were wrongfully convicted and then freed due to DNA evidence after spending decades in prison.

Experience the Miracle of Hickory during a screening of Miracle, a local documentary highlighting Catawba County’s remarkable response to the Polio Outbreak of 1944. The film highlights patient and volunteer stories and the treatment of polio at the time. Featuring talk backs with filmmaker Richard Eller and polio survivors at selected locations.

This storytime celebrates Helen Keller and Louis Braille and features an interactive activity. Special guests are "Riley the Lion" and his human companion, veteran Dawson Hart.
