Take Advantage of the NCDL
August 21, 2018
Historically, libraries of different sizes serving varied populations couldn’t always promise similar levels of service. Smaller libraries, by necessity, often had scaled-back options in comparison to their larger counterparts. That was the case in North Carolina until a consortium of libraries came together to collaborate on a way to equalize resources.
As a result, residents of North Carolina are now incredibly fortunate to have access to a solid database of digital media for easy borrowing and consumption. Over the years, the 20+-member library consortium worked diligently to bring patrons a better technique for using electronic resources, one that offered similarities across the board and didn’t require each constituent library to create a proprietary system. The happy outcome? The NC Digital Library.
The driving software behind the NC Digital Library is Overdrive, a program that coordinates lending and keeps track of the multiple copies of ebooks, audiobooks, movies, and magazines offered. Its user-friendly companion app, called Libby (an easy download!), lets you tap into Overdrive’s technology and gain quick access to everything that Overdrive has available.
If you’d like to learn a little bit about the background of the NC Digital Library and a lot more about what it can do for you and your family, take advantage of our one-on-one sessions scheduled for Wednesday, August 29 from 10 am till noon at the St. Stephens branch. We’ll sit down with you individually, help you understand the service, create an account tied to your library card, and teach you to navigate the site so that you can begin downloading and enjoying things right away!
To set up a 20-minute session, just call 828.466.6821. In short order, you’ll be free to check out your favorite magazines, authors, and videos. The NC Digital Library offers media for kids, teens, and adults and categories that include romance, mystery, fiction, non-fiction, and much, much more!
