Summer Learning Wrap-up Parties
July 18, 2018
With the library’s Summer Learning programs winding down in early August, it’s clear indication that school will begin again soon. To some kids, that’s tragic news; to others, it’s reason to cheer.
To help ease the transition, the library will be hosting end-of-summer parties at each of its locations. While each celebration will be slightly different (most involve ice cream!), the intention is to applaud everyone who achieved their reading goals and recognize the effort that went into being disciplined and helping ward off the dreaded ‘summer slide,’ that loss of learning retention that can accompany summer breaks without schoolwork.
We hope that everyone who participated in Summer Learning will join us for the branch parties and be proud of your accomplishments. It takes willpower to keep up with the program, especially in the midst of seasonal temptations!
The dates of the individual parties are as follows:
- Claremont Branch – Thursday, July 26 from 4-6 pm
- Conover Branch – Thursday, August 2 from 4-6 pm
- Maiden Branch – Thursday, July 26 from 2-4 pm
- Sherrills Ford-Terrell Branch – Friday, August 3 at 6 pm
- Southwest Branch – Tuesday, July 31 at 6 pm
- St. Stephens Branch – Friday, August 3 at 3 pm
In addition, on Monday, August 6 beginning at 5:30 pm, the Main Library in Newton will be hosting a system-wide celebration of Summer Learning, complete with food trucks, live music, and other activities. Anyone who was involved in Summer Learning 2018 is invited to attend and take pride in the community’s combined achievements. We’re proud of you and want to make sure you know it!
