Start Your Garden From Seed

Start Your Garden From Seed

Published: April 04, 2019

Do you love to watch things grow? Do you find satisfaction in tending to plants? The Library’s next hands-on gardening seminar will focus on starting a garden from seed. Not only is this DIY approach rewarding, but it’s also economical since seeds are typically more affordable than seedlings.

As part of the workshop, participants will learn which plants can be easily started from seeds and which specimens are best to buy as ready-to-plant seedlings. They’ll also get good information about what sort of prep is required to give seeds their best chance at good health, and they’ll learn when to get seeds started to transplant them in the ground for optimal productivity during the growing season.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions, large and small, to have Catawba County Master Gardener volunteers offer advice in regard to the local climate, soil conditions, and such. Participants will also have the opportunity to start some plants of their own during the seminar and have the instructors evaluate their techniques and share helpful tips.

The course takes place from 9 am till noon on Saturday, April 13 at the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Branch Library.
