Landscape Design Basics
November 14, 2018
Have you thought about how you might like to beautify your yard or garden? Are you not quite sure what it would involve?
If the answer is ‘yes,’ you’ll want to join us for the next advanced gardener series. In it, Dr. George Place of the Catawba County Cooperative Extension will talk about the basics of landscape design and will offer visual examples of what you can create when you put your gardening skills to work.
We’ll consider topics like color, form, sight lines, scale, balance, texture, repetition, and unity. These principles help create cohesion within the landscape. And of course, we’ll emphasize the importance of smart planning. It’s hard to create something beautiful if you don’t have a goal or vision in mind. And while it might be economical to buy plants on clearance, simply placing them one by one in empty spots without thought of a grand scheme doesn’t offer the impact you’re likely looking for.
Questions from participants are always encouraged, so bring them with you, and if you have specific needs you’re trying to meet, you’re welcome to share those as well. Even if you don’t come away with a perfectly detailed, comprehensive plan, you’ll have a much better sense of how to approach the creation of a beautiful landscape, and you’ll be better equipped with the knowledge to implement your wishes!
The advanced gardener workshop meets Tuesday, November 20 at 6:30 pm at the Main Library in Newton with a repeat session on Tuesday, November 27 at 6:30 pm at the Maiden Branch Library.
