Are you a fan of weather, constantly checking forecasts and keeping track of conditions? If so, you can transform your interest into scientific information by uploading your weather snapshots to a database for analysis.

At our upcoming Library tutorial, participants will learn about the technology involved in the app and discover how their own observations can add to the global knowledge of climate. This crowd-sourced information allows scientists to detect trends, look at geography, and determine ways to predict and respond to weather events.

Noting weird weather is especially important, so unexpected snowstorms, early springs, first blooms, and excessive lightning are all reason to upload photos. So are things like changes to animal appearances, bird migrations, and erosion. If there’s a tie-in to weather, the scientists would like to know!

The one-on-one sessions take place from 9 am till 6 pm on Saturday, April 13 at the Main Library in Newton. Just drop by with your app-enabled smartphone or tablet, and we’ll get you started contributing to the scientific record!
