Dig In to Soil and Composting!
Published: March 20, 2018
March’s Advanced Gardener class takes on the foundation for all good gardening: the soil! Join Dr. George Place as he offers advice on turning your kitchen scraps into valuable fertilizer. He’ll also discuss soil testing and talk about how you can create a strong base for landscape and garden success. This particular session takes place Tuesday, March 27 at 6:30 pm at the Maiden branch.
This presentation is part of the Library's Advanced Gardener series designed to help both beginner and advanced gardeners enjoy all of the health, enjoyment, and learning that comes from managing the home landscape and growing some of your own produce.
Dr. Place, Catawba County Cooperative Extension Director, leads each class in the Advanced Gardener series, which meets at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on the second Tuesday of each month (6pm-7pm); the Newton Library on the third Tuesday of each month (6:30pm-7:30pm; and the Maiden Library on the fourth Tuesday of each month (6:30pm-7:30pm).
Attendees who participate in all eleven presentations and who also volunteer 20 hours in a community garden will receive certification as an Advanced Gardener. They'll also receive gardening incentives, including coupons and gift certificates from local garden supply businesses, and an Advanced Gardener tee shirt!
April's seminar will focus on Flowers, Shrubs & Pollinator Gardens.
