Advanced Gardener: Weeds

Advanced Gardener: Weeds

Published: May 16, 2019

The Advanced Gardener series continues with a topic that gardeners and homeowners confront regularly during the growing season: weeds. It’s one thing to grow and cultivate desirable plants and another entirely to keep them from being overcome by everything from henbit and dandelions to Bermuda grass and poison ivy.

At this seminar, Dr. Adam Smith, turf and weed management specialist with the Catawba County Cooperative Extension, will talk about the various methods you can use to win the war against weeds. He’ll share different categories of weeds, indicate how they grow and thrive, and offer details about the resources available to stunt, control, and/or kill them.

Bring specific questions – or samples of your weeds – and get helpful information about what can work in your own situation. Armed with knowledge and a science-based strategy, you can get a handle on those invaders that hinder your garden!

The Advanced Gardener workshop takes place at 6 pm on Tuesday, May 21 at the Main Library in Newton. An identical session takes place at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, May 28 at the Maiden Branch Library.
